That summer look: the trends to look out for in 2024

Summer is most definitely here in the Southern Hemisphere — the time to relax, unwind and head outdoors. But with a change of wardrobe comes a change in style. Here are some of the beauty trends and popular pampering packages this season.

Make-up trends.

2024 is a move towards the basics, applying less to get more in turn. An airbrushed flush, ombré lips, and striking eyeliner are predicted to be the most popular combination for the season, according to makeup artist Tasha Reiko Brown.

If you’re looking to mix things up with friends this year, The Beauty Parlour offers some fantastic group and private makeup sessions, taking you through skin prep, individual make-up routines and how to enhance your best features. This is a chance for some fun, as well as some serious styling. If you’re interested, check out our tutorial options here.

Striking shapes and bold lines.

One style that rarely goes out of fashion is eyebrow shaping. The trend is still towards defined, well-shaped tinted eyebrows this season. If you’re looking to achieve that perfect shape and keep it looking incredible for a while longer, The Beauty Parlour offer eyebrow shaping and tinting, Henna and a hybrid look, with something to suit everyone

Pure Fiji massage.

Pure Fiji is the hot product right now in the beauty line, particularly for spa and massage treatments. We use Pure Fiji massage oils, sugar rubs and body butter in most of our treatments. If you’re looking for the full experience, we recommend the Self Replenish Face & Body Treatment, including a 45-minute massage and a 60-minute facial of your choice.

You can find all our Pure Fiji product lines on our website. We recommend the coconut body butter or sugar rub — it both feels (and smells) incredible!

Nail colours.

Shellac nails are also receiving popular attention right now. This technique mixes ordinary gel polish with regular polish to give a stronger, chip resistant finish to your nails.

The Beauty Parlour offer acrylic, builder gel and shellac nail finishes, for building stronger nails that look great when coloured in.

Procell Microchanneling.

This technique exploded in the United States last year and has been steadily creeping around Australia, but has yet to make its big debut in New Zealand. In fact, there are over 10,000 clinics worldwide, but only two in Christchurch that offer this treatment — and The Beauty Parlour is one of them!

Procell Microchanneling is a process that uses very fine needles that lightly touch the epidermis, the outermost layer of skin. While all you feel is a slight tingling sensation, on the micro level, the skin has to deal with thousands of tiny injuries.

This might sound bad, but in actual fact, these ‘micro’ injuries, far from harming the body, actually assist it in cell repair. Reacting to the injuries, the skin heals better than it would a larger, uncontrolled injury, such as a scar or pockmark. With the aid of a growth serum derived from bone marrow, the cells go into overdrive creating collagen and protein strands, leading to healthier, better-looking skin.

The treatment also helps reduce the appearance of frowns, fine lines and wrinkles by encouraging elastin in the skin cells. This can have the effect of smoothing over much of what happens on the surface level of the skin.

Dermaplanning.

Dermaplanning has been around for a little longer, but it’s still one of the most popular methods for promoting fresh, healthy skin and removing any built-up dirt, grease or fine ‘peach fuzz’ hairs in the skin. This process exfoliates your skin while also removing that annoying peach fuzz hair please remove (removing the very top layer of the epidermis) and remove (or more before a new epidermal layer begins to form).

For a more permanent solution to hair removal, electrolysis gets at the very roots of unwanted hair. A very fine and sterile needle is applied to the base of the hair follicle, and a small electrical current is supplied to destroy the hair structure without harming the skin tissue.
